Biography

Mark is Deputy COO of Mace, the international consultancy and construction company. He joined the company’s Group Board as an owner in 2013. Mark joined Mace in 2004, tasked with creating and leading a construction business focusing on major projects. Mace’s turnover in 2018 will exceed £2 billion and employs some 4,500 people across five continents. Mark’s role encompasses strategic leadership on major projects e.g. Emirates Air Line cable car, the Tate Modern extension, Chelsea Barracks redevelopment.

Mark has worked at board level since 1993, having joined the construction industry in 1981 as an apprentice with Mowlem. In 1998 he was appointed Managing Director for Construction in London for Wates, prior to becoming an Executive Director in 2001. Following this, he was Managing Director for Structure Tone Inc, a construction group based in the USA with interests in the UK, Ireland, Europe and Asia.

Since 2017 Mark is also Chairman of Build UK which represents over 40% of UK construction, bringing together clients, main contractors and trade associations representing over 11,500 specialist contractors and other organisations. Mark is a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.
