HSE Building Safety Programme Response


Peter joined HSE in 1985 as HM Factory Inspector and has held a number of senior posts in HSE’s field operations and major hazard directorates dealing with a wide range of industry sectors, including construction. For 6 years Peter led HSE’s regulation of the major hazard chemical and downstream oil industries with partner environment agencies, including implementing major reforms to the COMAH regime.

Peter was appointed HSE’s Chief Inspector of Construction in April 2015, and currently leads HSE’s contribution to the Government’s Building Safety Programme reforms following the Grenfell Tower tragedy. Peter also represents HSE on the cross-agency Joint Regulators Group tasked with developing and piloting new approaches and assisting with the transition to a new regulatory framework.
